Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Sunday 26 th January 2025

Good morning, brothers and sisters, young men and women. Today, I want to share a message that speaks directly to the heart of our generation, particularly to the youth.

The Bible teaches us in 1Corinthians 3:16-17 (NKJV)
“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone
defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which is in you.”

This verse is a reminder of who we are, and who is in us. Yet, many young people in this generation
live as if this truth does not apply to them. Sadly, we see men and women who have completely
departed from this truth. Ignorance and apathy have crept into their lives, pulling them away from
their creator, and ruining their lives. Today, I want us to reflect on what it means to be God’s temple
and how this should shape how we live, how we talk, how we act and how we relate with others.

1. What Does It Mean to Be God’s Temple?
In biblical times of the old Covenant, the temple was regarded as a sacred place, a holy building, a
site where the glory of God dwelt, a place of prayer, worship, and divine presence. But in the new
Covenant, the Apostle Paul tells us that God’s Spirit no longer resides in man-made temples but in
us—His people. As God’s temple, we are called to be holy and set apart for Him.

a. The Presence of God Dwells Within You
This is not just a theological idea; it is a reality and a truth. When we give our lives to Christ, His Spirit
comes to live in us. We carry His presence wherever we go. Are you living in a way that reflects God’s presence within you?

b. Temples Are Meant for Worship
Your life should glorify God in everything—your thoughts, actions, words, and decisions. Are you
using your body and life as an act of worship?

2. The Reality of Today’s Generation
Let’s face the truth: today’s youth often struggle with living as God’s temple. Instead of holiness,
many choose compromise. The pressures of social media, peer influence, lustful desires and cultural
norms have lured many into ignorance of God’s truth.

a. Ignorance and Apathy
Many young people don’t even realize their value in God’s eyes. They chase temporary pleasures,
forgetting their eternal purpose.
Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” When you don’t know who you
are, you’ll settle for less than God’s best. Young people, come to your right senses and act wisely.

b. Defiling God’s Temple
Choices such as substance abuse, sexual immorality, negative influences, or simply a careless
attitude towards life defile the temple of God.
Galatians 6:7 warns us: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he
will also reap.” Young people, see for yourself what is happening around you, and turn to God.

3. A Call to Reflect and Return to the Creator
God is calling this generation to come back to Himself. He is calling you to reflect on your life and
turn away from anything that defiles His temple. Are you listening, young people?

a. Reflect on Your Purpose
Why did God create you? To know Him, love Him, and glorify Him.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us of God’s plan: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

b. Repent and Return to God
1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.” God’s arms are always open, ready to cleanse, forgive and restore you to live in His purpose.

4. Practical Steps to Honour God’s Temple
Living as God’s temple is not just a concept—it requires action. These are steps you can take:

a. Guard Your Mind and Heart
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Be careful what you watch, listen to, and entertain. Let God’s Word be your guide.

b. Flee from Temptation
1 Corinthians 6:18 commands us to flee from sexual immorality and other sins that harm our bodies.
Don’t place yourself in situations that could lead you away from God.

c. Surround Yourself with Godly Influences
Proverbs 13:20 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”
Join a youth group, Bible study, or find mentors who encourage you to grow in your faith.

d. Serve God with Your Life
Romans 12:1 urges us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. Use your
time, talents, and resources to glorify Him.

Conclusion: An Invitation to a Holy Life
In closing, I want to appeal to the youths. This generation is not beyond hope. God still has a purpose
for every youth, no matter how far you have wandered. Will you choose today to honour God with
your body, your choices, and your life? Will you rededicate your temple to Him?

Repent now and Come to your Creator
If you’ve been defiling God’s temple, repent today. Confess your sins and ask the Holy Spirit to help
you live in holiness. Reflect on your life and make decisions that align with God’s will. Your body and life are not your
own; they were bought at a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Let us all, young and old, live as temples of God—bringing glory to the One who dwells in us.

Let Us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for reminding us of who we are in You. We repent of all our sins.
Forgive us for the times we have defiled Your temple. Cleanse us and help us to honour You in every
aspect of our lives. Fill us with Your Spirit and empower us to live holy lives that glorify You.

May your Peace that passes all understanding guide us through your Words and to obey them every
day of our lives.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
